Mountz Jewelers’ Employee, Tonya Mowery, Earns the Graduate Gemologist Designation through
the Gemologist Institute of America
(Camp Hill, PA) August 18, 2009-

Tonya Mowery, a sales associate at Mountz Jewelers’ Harrisburg location, recently earned the Graduate Gemologist degree from the Gemological Institute of America. The Gemological Institute of America, known as the premier authority in the diamond grading industry, offers the Graduate Gemologist diploma which has been regarded as the jewelry industry’s highest academic credential. Graduates pursue careers as diamond buyers, appraisers, retailers or senior professionals.

Tonya became interested in earning the graduate gemologist program after seeing the research oriented and analytical information side of the appraising process. Tonya enrolled in GIA’s distance education program and earned her degree in four years. Tonya is now certified to grade diamonds, identify gemstones and precious metals, as well as understand and provide value assessments.

“With the information Tonya has learned through GIA’s Graduate Gemologist program, she is able to identify, evaluate and appraise diamonds, colored gemstones and jewelry. Not only is this invaluable to her career at Mountz Jewelers, but the knowledge she can pass on to her clients is unparalleled. Tonya plans to continue her education and earn the Certified Gemologist Appraiser from the GIA, a distinction reserved for less than 500 professionals worldwide.

The 4-Day conference was attended by Ronald Leitzel, President/CEO,
Tonia Ulsh, Chief Operations Manager;
Marketing Department ~ Linda Overbaugh and Kristin Nawoczenski
and Finance Department, Heather Hassenplug.

The Instore magazine is a jewelers' magazine that is strongly dedicated
to educating jewelry retailers.

The training session were designed not just to offer the attendee tips,
but to give you a plan of action that you can actually start working
on right at the show.

The Mountz attendees split up to attend the numerous training sessions
to bring back as much enlightenment and education as possible
to the rest of the Mountz Jewelers staff.

It was a great opportunity to network with other jewelers, view new product and obtain a lot of great information.
